How the estimate works

Every night we recompute the asking price of every year/make/model combination from millions of live dealer listings across the United States. Your estimate starts from the median for your exact vehicle — the price half the market is above and half below — then moves with two things you tell us:

  • Mileage. We measure how much the market actually discounts each 10,000 miles for your model, instead of applying a generic curve.
  • Location. Some states pay consistently more for the same vehicle. We compare your state's typical price with the national one and cap the adjustment at ±15%, so one thin state sample can't distort the answer.

What this is not: a trade-in offer. Dealers buy below asking price — the number here is what comparable vehicles are being listed for, which is the right starting point whether you're selling privately, trading in, or checking a dealer's price before you buy.
