Where does this car sit against the ones a buyer will see next to it? The Overview tab answers that with a local market rank for a VIN: one number that says how many comparable cars around your store are advertised under yours, counted inside your search radius with your match settings. Every price on the tab is an asking price. We never see a sale price, and nothing here changes the price on your website.

The top row states the basis: your market scope ZIP, then search radius, pricing window, trim match and filter options. Under it, Local Market Rank reads, for example, "#7 of 10", seventh cheapest of ten. Market Rank lists those cars cheapest first with seller, price, vs average and Days, split into Active, Sold or delisted and All. Beat counts the competitors advertised above your price today; hover its caption for how many sold or were delisted lately, at what typical last asking price and after how many days. Price Simulator is a slider along the Price Band from the cheapest listing to the highest; every rank on the screen follows it until you press Reset to real price, and nothing is saved. Local Competitors shows the cars ranked just above and below yours, and Platform Rankings gives your place on each website, for example #27 of 49 on one site.

A common routine is the Monday walk of the aged units. Open a car that has sat, say, 45 days, read its rank and the Days column beside the cars around it, then drag the simulator down until Beat moves and see which store you would pass. If the chip says Showing data within 500 mi, we had to widen the search, so treat the rank as a guide.

01 Give this screen the whole window

  • Full screen hides the rest of the page so the whole board fits at one glance.
  • Handy when you walk a manager through one car.
  • Exit, in the same corner, brings the window back.

Full screen gives this board the whole window, so all eleven cards are readable at once without scrolling. Use it when you are walking a manager through one car at the desk. The same button turns into Exit and brings the normal window back.

02 This car needed a wider search

  • Too few competitors inside your radius, so we widened it — the chip says how far.
  • Every number in this view now comes from that wider area.
  • Other regions price differently — treat rank and target as a guide, not a rule.

Cars with enough local competitors do not show this chip.

03 What these numbers are based on

  • The top card is your market scope ZIP — the point every distance is measured from.
  • Under it: search radius, pricing window, trim match and filter options.
  • Click any card to read what it means and what it changes.

A number that looks wrong is usually one of these five settings.

This column says what every number on the screen is based on: the ZIP your market is measured from, the search radius, the pricing window, the trim match and the filter options in force. When a number looks wrong, read these five cards first. A radius of five hundred miles, for example, pulls in cars from another state.

04 Your rank in this market

  • Local Market Rank — for example, "#7 of 10" means seventh cheapest of ten.
  • Counted inside your search radius with your match settings.
  • A chip like Showing data within 500 mi means we had to widen the search — compare with care.
  • Click the card to see the full ranked list.

Local Market Rank is the number that matters. For example, number seven of ten means your car is the seventh cheapest of ten comparable listings, counted inside your search radius with your match settings. 05 The ranked list behind your spot

  • Market Rank lists the comparable cars cheapest first: seller, price, vs average and Days.
  • Active is for sale today; Sold or delisted stopped being advertised; All is both.
  • Each pill is ranked on its own, so the three counts are not one list.
  • View all listings opens the full table in a window.

Market Rank is the list behind your spot: the comparable cars cheapest first, with seller, price, the gap to the average and days advertised. The five rows on the card are the five cheapest, so you see who is under you and by how much. Active is today’s market, sold or delisted stopped being advertised, and All is both.

06 How many you beat on price

  • Beat counts the comparable cars advertised above your price today.
  • Hover competitors on price for what happened lately: how many sold or were delisted, at what typical last asking price, after how many days.
  • Cars a website lost sight of are in no number here.

Every price here is an asking price. We never see a sale price.

09 Where you stand on each website

  • Platform Rankings — your place on every website that carries cars like yours.
  • For example #27 of 49: twenty-six comparable cars on that site are advertised under you.
  • Listings but no rank means your own car is not listed there.

Platform Rankings shows your place on each website, that website’s comparable cars lined up cheapest first. Use it to find the site where you look worst, and fix that listing first. Twenty-seventh of forty-nine, for example, means twenty-six of those cars are advertised under you.

Frequently asked questions

What does the local market rank for a VIN mean?

Local Market Rank orders the comparable cars inside your search radius by asking price, cheapest first, and tells you where yours lands. For example, "#7 of 10" means seventh cheapest of ten. The count uses your radius, trim match, model year, condition and odometer settings, so a rank that looks wrong is usually one of those five settings.

How does the price simulator for dealers work?

The Price Simulator is a slider along the Price Band, from the cheapest listing in the market to the highest. As you drag it, every rank, competitor and platform number on the screen is recalculated for the simulated price, and a banner says the simulation is on. Reset to real price puts everything back. Nothing is saved and nothing is sent to your website.

What does, for example, "Beat 43 of 107 competitors on price" mean?

Of the comparable cars advertised for sale today, 43 are priced above yours, so a buyer sorting by price sees your car before them. The line under the number reports how many of those cars sold or were delisted in the window, their typical last asking price and how many days they were listed. Every figure is an asking price; we never see a sale price.

How do I compare my days on lot with the market?

The Market Rank list shows a Days column for each competitor next to its price, and the Beat card states after how many days the cars that left were typically listed. Put your own days next to those two numbers: a car older than the typical exit and ranked in the bottom half of the list is the one to reprice first.

Which websites rank my car, and why does one say "listings" with no rank?

Platform Rankings gives your position on every website that carries comparable cars, for example "#27 of 49" means twenty-six comparable cars on that site are advertised under you. A tile that shows only a count of listings means your own car is not advertised on that website, so there is no place to rank it.
