Mild hybrid

A small electric motor assists the gasoline engine. Mild hybrids generally cannot drive on electric power alone and do not plug in.

Full hybrid

The engine and electric motor can work together, with limited electric-only driving when conditions allow. The battery charges while driving; no plug is needed.

Plug-in hybrid (PHEV)

A rechargeable battery supports electric driving, with a gasoline engine for longer journeys. Regular charging helps you use its electric capability.
